The Beginning...

Ever since I can remember I have loved making things. Paper crafting, cross stitch, painting, hand sewing and knitting are my favourites.

My mother and I love making hand made items and selling them at markets in South Canterbury and Canterbury, New Zealand. Making these creations and then selling them to people who really appreciate the time and effort that has gone into making them is really rewarding. Once the items are sold though, they go to another home, and I have forgotten what I have made over the years. This is one of the reasons why I decided to start a blog. With the electronic world I no longer have to fill boxes with photos of forgotten items, I intend to record most of these on here. Hopefully I may get some readers, but to start with it is my personal record. If you want to join me, then I hope you enjoy it, and maybe get some inspiration to make something yourself.

KNITTING

I remember being taught how to knit when I was five years old by my mother. I didn't knit so much during my late teens and early twenties... didn't want the 'old granny' title being associated with my name! But then knitting has come full circle and a new generation of knitters have been born, and it is no longer seen as quite so old fashioned. I am now quite happy to take my knitting along to my children's swimming lessons and sit poolside happily clicking away the minutes.

The first wrap/shawl I made in this style was in blues/burgandy with a metallic thread running through it. I made it for my cousin to help keep her warm in her wheelchair. She keeps it with her all the time and I am so happy she finds it useful. The wool is Aliza yarn imported from Turkey and it is so soft and snuggly. Whilst they do take many hours to make I think the result is worthwhile. The purple wrap is for sale at "Nectar" a gorgeous florist/gift shop in Tai Tapu, New Zealand. (The other two already have lovely owners).
